11 Do's and Don’ts for Your Wedding Website

Wedding Website

Your wedding website will provide your guests with everything they need to know in regard to locations, timing, dress codes, lodging, and more. If you’re having a destination wedding, the website is especially important. This is your guests’ go-to spot for all wedding-related information, so you’ll want to make sure you get it right! We’re here to help with 11 dos and don’ts for your wedding website!

Do: Utilize your website to collect RSVPs

Save your guests a trip to the post office and save yourself a stamp! Have your guests RSVP on your site. This will also encourage them to poke around the site to get other essential info. Another bonus is that you won’t have to wait on the mail, you’ll know someone has RSVPed right away!

Don’t: Share too much personal information

Unless you’re utilizing a password protected URL (which is a great idea!) anyone can access your wedding website. Be sure to leave out personal phone numbers and addresses so that they can’t be accessed by strangers.

Do: Include pictures

If you were wondering what to do with all of your engagement photos, this is the answer! Your wedding website is the perfect way to display the pictures from your engagement session that didn’t make it to social media. It can also be fun to include some candid non-professional photos that show off your personalities. If you’re featuring your wedding party somewhere on your site, adding their photos is a great way to help your guests put names to faces.

Don’t: Forget vital information

Although there are tons of fun things to include on your site, be sure you have all of the important stuff front and center! Guests need to know things like the ceremony/reception start times, dress codes, locations, etc. Make sure essential information is available and easily accessible.

Do: Include helpful information for out-of-town guests

If you know that you have a good number of out-of-town guests, help them out on the website. Providing hotel, restaurant, bar, and activity recommendations is a great way to make sure that they have a fun and smooth trip. Even local guests will appreciate seeing all of your favorite spots and recommendations!

Don’t: Overcomplicate the URL

You want your guests to be able to find your wedding website with ease! Although you’ll probably send the URL on the invitation, they’ll still have to type it in on their phones and laptops. Keep it short, sweet, and personal. Including your names or your wedding date is a good way to make it easy to remember.

Do: Put all of your registries in one place

If you have more than one registry, consolidate them all on one page! This makes it easy for your guests to look through all of their options. Some sites will allow you to show all of your individual registry items on one page. Sites like www.theknot.com or www.zola.com can make consolidating your registries easy!

Don’t: Include exclusive events

If you’re hosting a smaller event like a rehearsal dinner or a farewell brunch for out-of-town guests, don’t include the events on your website unless everyone is invited! People may think that they are invited since it’s posted on the website for everyone, or they may feel slighted due to the lack of an invite. Keep smaller event information separate.

Do: Make it personal!

Include fun information about you, your groom, and your wedding party! This is a great way to make your wedding website more personal. Background information on the wedding party is great for guests that don’t know everyone in attendance.

Don’t: Write a novel

Too much information can result in the important things being lost in the mix! You want to add personal touches to your site, but you don’t want your guests to be unable to find what they’re looking for. Keep things concise!

Do: Make the site your own

There are endless options when it comes to wedding website design. Customize the site to show off you and your fiancé’s personal style, as well as the style of the wedding.
